Choosing Wallpaper can be difficult, so many colors, patterns and borders.  You can, however set a level of expectation on doing it yourself or calling the professionals (That would be us).

On each roll of wallpaper, you will find a pattern number and a "run number" or dye-lot number. A pattern number identifies a particular design and color. The dye-lot or run number represents a group of rolls that are printed on the same print run using the same batch of ink. Different dye-lot number can vary in tonal color a change in the vinyl coating or a change in the embossing process.

Because of all these variations, it is important to check each roll for a pattern number, a dye-lot number and color and pattern. Also, keep a record of the pattern and dye-lot numbers in case you run short and need to order more wallpaper.

Most wallpapers have a Pattern Repeat. A pattern repeat is the point on the seam of the wallpaper where the pattern matches the next strip of wallpaper. The pattern repeat is an integral part of the design. The repeat can range from 1" or less to 251/2" or more. Remember that a large pattern repeat has a large waste factor, so order extra rolls to compensate.

Check to see if the wallpaper your hanging has a pattern match. There are three major types of pattern matches.

Random Match - In this type of pattern match, the pattern matches no matter how each strip is positioned. Stripes are the best example of this type of match. Note that any random match will produce less waste since there is no pattern match with which to deal.

Straight Across Match - In a straight across match, the pattern continues directly across the strips. The same elements of the design in each strip are an equal distance from the ceiling line.

Drop Match - There are several different types of Drop Matches:

Half-Drop Match - In this match, every other strip is the same at the ceiling line. The pattern runs diagonally across the wall. If you number your strips, 91.3.5. etc.) they will be the same and (2,4,6, etc.) will be the same. Also known as an Offset Match.

Multiple Drop Match - This match is similar to a Half-Drop Match except it take more strips to repeat to the first strip. Every third strip is the same in 1/3 drops. There are also 1/4 drops, 1/5 drops and 1/6 drops. Fortunately, these are rare. If you are a beginner, choose another pattern.

So you can see, the benefits of hiring a hanger are that the job will be done right without frustration.
